This is C.T. Strickland, founder and owner of two independent, privately owned ventures, Designer Clockworks and Designer Leatherworks – hence the website name, Time with Leather. As a Dealer, I am continuously adding new clocks by Hermle and new Leather products from various suppliers to our e-commerce store. I also developed two divisions of services: Mechanical Clock Repair and Leather Handcrafting. Please review the specialties I offer as my schedule permits.

Designer Clockworks: Mechanical Clock Repair

We generally do a full overhaul of the movement only. Personal and special projects may include refurbishing the clock case, but more often we recommend you contact a professional furniture shop as they are better set up for a quick turn around. Clocks we do Not Repair

We do not repair the following type clocks: electric, battery powered quartz, or mechanical with balance type escapements – Swiss or otherwise. Quartz movements are designed to simply be replaced. Balance (movements that do not use a pendulum) type: Floating, Swiss, Platform lever escapements we recommend replacing the entire movement since manufacturers and supply houses recommend such because often the part is a good portion of the entire movement costs. Large Wall and Floor Clocks – Local Customers Only

If you are local to the Pleasant Garden, Greensboro, NC area, and have a large wall clock, contact us first. If you are local and have a floor clock – commonly known as a tall case or grandfather clock, please contact us for guidance before you move or try to attempt any DYI service. Sometimes we can advise you by phone or email, but more often these clocks require a house call. If an overhaul is determined and service scheduled, we come to you and remove the movement and mechanical components to take them back to our shop for the work. Once the work is complete and some testing, we then make a return house call to reinstall and set-up your clock.

Here are the tasks involved in a complete overhaul of most any MECHANICAL PENDULUM clock movement.

1. The movement is given a preliminary inspection
2. We contact the customer to advise the work and give an estimate
3. If customer approves the movement is completely dismantled, and cleaned with ultrasonic clock cleaner
4. All pivots are inspected for damage and if no damage each one is polished on the lathe
5. Pivot holes in the plates are checked for excessive wear and where needed new bushings are installed
6. Each bushing is fitted to the corresponding pivot
7. The mechanism is preassembled and tested for alignment and depthing.
8. Next is Final assembly and adjustment to assure clock strikes, or chimes and operates in beat
9. The movement regulation is adjusted for more accurate time keeping.
10. Clock is delivered to the customer with a warranty for the work performed.

Designer Leatherworks: Handcrafted and Tooled Leather

Currently we are not taking any new custom projects., but our focus is standard production leatherwork which we will add to our online store as time permits. Meanwhile continue to check back since we are a dealer and distributor for other leather goods manufacturers whose products we will soon be adding more to our store.
